The minimum salary you need to be happy in Houston (and other cities) - Chron

You might not be able to buy happiness, but you can buy off a lot of misery.

After all, money can pay a sitter, fix a blown tire and take the brunt of a deductible on an unexpected hospital visit. So while not a hard and fast prerequisite for joy, having enough in the bank can certainly take the sting out of happiness inhibitors.

But how much is enough?

It's a topic of debate, and researchers at Purdue University have published a study establishing the different amounts a person living in America today needs to be happy, evaluate their lives, or just simply maintain emotional well-being.

Based on this study, experts at Go Banking Rates have projected the minimum yearly salaries required to live happily (or just stay sane) in different cities around the country, based on average cost-of-living.
