They say money can buy happiness. If that's the case, you'll need to have an annual salary of $119,070 in Phoenix, according to a study.
Purdue University conducted a study to find out how much money people need to be happy. It determined $105,000 is the ideal yearly income for an individual to have life satisfaction in North America.
Using the study's findings, financial management website GOBankingRates predicted the minimum salary you would need to be happy in the 50 largest US cities.
While you need more than $100,000 to be happy in Phoenix, you would need to make between $68,040 and $85,050 to have emotional well-being.
Nearby in Mesa, it takes an annual salary of $119,280 to be happy and between $68,160 and $85,200 to have emotional well-being.
In Tucson, you need $104,370 to be happy and between $68,040 and $85,050 to have emotional well-being.
Feeling bad? Arizona cities are much lower compared to cities across the country.
California tops the list with quite a few of its cities. In Los Angeles, the study finds that an annual salary of $204,855 will make you happy and a salary between $117,060 and $146,325 will give you emotional well-being. San Francisco, not surprisingly, was much higher: $319,935 for happiness and between $182,820 and $228,525 for emotional well being. San Diego was a better bet, but still well above Phoenix: $186,375 for happiness, between $106,500 and $133,125 for emotional well-being.
In New York, a salary of $219,765 will make you happy and a salary between $125,580 and $156,975 will give you emotional well-being.
