IOWA CITY, Iowa (KWWL) - An Iowa City snowplow working on West Park Road this week uncovered and damaged a stone wall in one family's front lawn.
"It's not uncommon," City Manager Geoff Fruin said of city plows dinging parked cars or mailboxes on their routes.
With no buffer between the sidewalk and street on West Park Road, neighbors say plows often move snow on to sidewalks they just cleared themselves.
"I think the biggest problem is ice," Isabel Henderson said, who had trouble running along the road this weekend. "If there's ice it's really dangerous."
People in the area asked the city to come plow the sidewalks as a remedy earlier this week, but one got a little too close.
Despite the damage, the homeowner said she was happy for the city's service and had no doubt they'd make good on their promise to come repair the wall in the spring.
Henderson agreed the sidewalk needed some attention.
"If I were someone who was using a wheelchair, it would actively ruin my day," Henderson said.
Fruin said the city is self-insured to deal with damages caused by snowplows; similar to how they deal with cases where someone slips and falls on city property.
