It is Christmas Day, and so if you are the sort of person who celebrates this holiday, I — and I assume my fellow writers — wish you a very happy one. Maybe I shouldn’t speak for my colleagues; they could all be raging misanthropes for all I know, and perhaps they have nothing but the most Grinchlike contempt for both Christmas and all of you reading this. Entirely possible, and you should demand answers of them. Why do they all hate you so much? I simply cannot fathom the reasons.
My own Christmas season has been a dark one. This year in general has, for various reasons, been a personal struggle for me. Some years are better than others; 2019 has been one I would prefer to simply forget. It is after nine am as I write this, and I am only now finishing up wrapping gifts to take with me to my parents’ house; most of it was bought weeks or even months ago, and the simple matter of dragging out the wrapping supplies and creating proper packages has seemed an almost insurmountable task most days.
I hope the holiday season has treated you well, and the day finds you happy and whole. Take care in travel, take solace in your loved ones, and take a moment to remember you have value. Happy Christmas, VEB.
