Michelle Obama wishes Ellen DeGeneres happy birthday with a playful burn - USA TODAY

Happy birthday, Ellen DeGeneres!

The talk show host turned 62 on Sunday, and in typical DeGeneres fashion, she's celebrating her birthday with a full week of festivities on "The Ellen DeGeneres Show."

On Tuesday, her birthday celebrations included her resident DJ sitting in a cake and a surprise message from someone by the name of Michelle Obama.

"Seriously Ellen. I love you. I admire you. You are one of the most generous, the most kind, the most inspiring person that I know," the former first lady said in a video message. "You inspire and touch every one you come in contact with, including me."

Obama encouraged DeGeneres to continue to live her life "with joy and laughter, and so, so much love for many, many years to come," noting that with Kobe Bryant's tragic death on Sunday, "we are once again reminded that each day is a precious gift."

"Barack and I are sending you all our love, all the birthday wishes that you can imagine," she continued, while placing her hand over her heart. "I love you, babe."

DeGeneres tweeted that the heartfelt message from Obama was "exactly what I needed" after "a rough day yesterday."

DeGeneres added, "I love you, too. I love you a whole lot. … That's so sweet. That's amazing."

Obama, who turned 56 earlier this month, has developed a close friendship with DeGeneres over the years, appearing on her show several times and even serving as a guest co-host in 2016.

And her birthday message to DeGeneres wouldn't be complete without a little joking.

"I’ve always thought we have so much in common," Obama said. "We both believe in the power of women and girls. And we’re both authors, although my books have sold more copies than yours – like, a lot more, not that it’s a competition, because it’s not. But if it were, we know who’d win."

Obama is referring to her 2018 best-seller, "Becoming," which on Sunday won the former first lady her first Grammy Award, for best spoken word album.
