The coronation of His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn Bodindradebayavarangkun, or King Rama X, tops the list of happy events for Thai people in 2019, according to an opinion survey by Suan Dusit Rajabhat University, or Suan Dusit Poll.
The poll was conducted on 8,475 people throughout the country from Dec 10-28 to gauge their opinions on events which occurred in the country in the year 2019.
Asked to mention events which made them happy, 37.98% cited the coronation of King Rama X on May 4; 36.66% a period of cool weather; and 25.36% holidays such as Songkran and New Year.
Asked what made them sad during the year, 54.40% mentioned the economic slump and high prices of goods; 25.26% cited major floods in Ubon Ratchathani and other parts of the country; and 20.34% cited news of crime, accidents and violence.
Regarding their favourite male politicians, on the government side Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha came on top with 54.19%; Julin Laksanavisit 23.25%; and Anutin Charnvirakul 22.56. On the opposition side, Thanathorn Juangroongruangkit came first with 51.54%; Piyabutr Saengkanokkul 28.35%; and Jirayu Huangsap 20.11%.
Asked to choose their favourite female politicians, on the government side Kanchana Silpa-archa came first with 52.97%, followed by Watanya Wong-opasri with 47.03%. In the opposition bloc, Khunying Sudarat Keyuraphan came first with 65.85%, followed by Pannika Wanich with 34.15%.
