No surprise here, but Cowboys guard Zack Martin wanted no part of the Jets.

New York GM Joe Douglas reportedly asked the Cowboys for either Martin or left tackle Tyron Smith in a package for safety Jamal Adams, but the Cowboys rejected any trade involving either of their Pro Bowl offensive linemen.

That was music to Martin’s ears.

“ happy they didn’t entertain it,” Martin said of the reports. “But I try not to look too much into that kinda stuff. A lot of that stuff is news for fans just to look at. I don’t get caught up in that.”

This might be the least surprising news of all-time. Martin has it made in Dallas, where he is a key piece in the Cowboys’ formidable offensive line on a team that tentatively sits atop the NFC East at 5-3. Martin is one of the best guards in the league and he’s made the Pro Bowl every season since the Cowboys drafted him 16th overall in 2014. Martin signed a six-year contract extension in 2018.

Besides the obvious football benefits of playing for a winning franchise like the Cowboys — with a plethora of offensive weapons such as Ezekiel Elliot and Amari Cooper — Martin also gets to enjoy the warmer weather and the lack of state income tax in Texas. Why would he ever want to leave that for the cold, cruel, losing environment in New York?

“I’m happy,” Martin said about his current situation. “I’m glad I’m still here and hopefully here for a long time.”
