Grading the Giants after their 34-27 loss to the Jets on Sunday.
Offense
Amid the slop, Daniel Jones stood tall. The rookie threw for four touchdowns, completed 26 of 40 passes for 308 yards, did not throw an interception and was his team’s leading rusher with 20 hard yards. Sure, he surrendered a strip-sack that gave the Jets points, but he was operating without any semblance of a ground game. There is no way Saquon Barkley should ever get the ball 13 times and finish with 1 yard. One! And his pass protection is regressing. Injury-related line shuffle resulted in six sacks and no blocking worth anything. Rookie Darius Slayton (10-121, 2 TDs) remains a huge positive. Golden Tate also had two TDs.
Grade: C
Defense
Where do we start? How about something nice? Le’Veon Bell (18-34, 1 TD) was held in check. That’s it for the niceties. Giving up 24 points to the Jets offense is way too many. Terrible start putting team in 14-0 hole, making this a get-right game for Sam Darnold. Jets offensive line is a mess and yet only two sacks of Darnold, which is really bad. Rookie CB DeAndre Baker continues to struggle. His 33-yard pass interference penalty handed the Jets a touchdown. Asking these linebackers to cover in space is not an ideal scenario and free safety Antoine Bethea is not exactly rising to the occasion either. Bethea and Alec Ogletree were bystanders on Jamison Crowder’s 23-yard TD.

Special Teams
Two extra points were blown, the first on a bad snap and the second when Aldrick Rosas missed a 43-yard attempt after a Tate holding penalty on the two-point conversion try. This is high school stuff. Cody Core dropped Braxton Berrios for no gain on Riley Dixon’s 53-yard punt. Dixon in the fourth quarter sent a 49-yard punt out of bounds on the 7-yard line. Rookie Corey Ballentine should not have taken the ball out of the end zone from 2 yards deep in the fourth quarter (he returned the kickoff to the 17).

Coaching
Pat Shurmur is going to find out losing to a bad Jets team does not sit well with ownership. He talked about “urgency’’ all week and his team came out flatter than a deflated Thanksgiving Day balloon. Shurmur did not pay for going for it on fourth-and-1 (and failing) from his 39-yard line — he dodged one there. James Bettcher’s defense is a massive reason for the losing and needs to be addressed in some fashion.
